 As a native of Flint, Michigan, a member of an underrepresented minority group, and a first-generation college student, Dr. LaMarcus D. Howard dreamed of being in a position to enact change within his community. Met with many challenges along the way, the journey to becoming Dr. Howard was not easy. The personal courage and resilience shown by Dr. Howard during those adverse times allowed him to accomplish all he has today. He credits his success in part to the phenomenal university support services and programs in which he participated.

However, it was the faith, love, and encouragement of family, friends, staff, and faculty that gave him the energy and drive he needed to obtain the highest academic degree awarded by a University. Dr. Howard strongly believes his accomplishments were made possible because of the village that invested in him, saw his potential, and supported him along his educational journey.

Howard Scholarship Annual Award was developed to support CMU’s Multicultural Academic Student Services (MASS) goal of encouraging and retaining students in their quest to receive their undergraduate college degree. Your charitable donation is the catalyst needed to assist a student in overcoming setbacks and adversities due to marginalization and accomplishing their goal of obtaining a college degree. Dr. Howard and awarded students would be eternally grateful for any amount of donations gifted. The larger the scholarship grows, the more students this village will be able to support.
