CMU Student Food Pantry
CMU Student Food Pantry
Help ensure that hunger is not a barrier to academic success or well-being for any CMU student.
Help ensure that hunger is not a barrier to academic success or well-being for any CMU student.
Help end the food insecurity that many CMU students encounter during their academic career.

The Student Food Pantry aims to ensure that hunger is not a barrier to academic success or well-being for any student at Central Michigan University. It helps students stay focused and well-fed with distributions of free food. Learn more about the availability and reasons for the food pantry below. The Student Food Pantry is open to any currently enrolled CMU student in need of supplemental food assistance. The first food distribution occurred from 6-8 p.m. on November 27, 2018. The Food Pantry is now open weekly and year-round:

Monday: 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Tuesday: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday: 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Thursday: 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Friday: 12 - 3:00 p.m.

The Food Pantry is located near the old North Campus Testing Center under the Robinson Residential Restaurant. Along with the Food Pantry, in 2020, the Care Pantry was started with supplemental hygiene, cleaning, cooking, and school supplies. This pantry has been growing to help fit students’ needs with products other than food. The distributions follow the same format as the Food Pantry so students can pick up any food and non-food items they are in need of. It is also located near the old North Campus Testing Center under the Robinson Residential Restaurant. Purchasing food for the pantry costs about 30 cents a pound and includes meat, produce, bread, and dairy products; therefore, every dollar donated makes a significant impact. Thank you!

EAS Student Professional Development Fund
Sponsor professional society membership and meeting attendance for CMU Geology, Environmental Science, and Meteorology majors!
Sponsor professional society membership and meeting attendance for CMU Geology, Environmental Science, and Meteorology majors! Active involvement in professional societies is one of the most effective ways we can expose students to advanced practices and networking opportunities in their chosen discipline. To that end, the EAS Student Professional Development Fund (ESPDF) aims to broaden participation of CMU geology, meteorology, and environmental science majors in professional organizations aligned with their field of study (such as the Geological Society of America, American Meteorological Society, National Association of Environmental Professionals, or American Geophysical Union). The transformative experience of attending a regional or national meeting where students interact with scientists and professionals in their chosen field can motivate them to excel in their coursework and finish their degree. Until now, opportunities like this were afforded to a select group of highly achieving students. With your financial support, the ESPDF can sponsor student memberships for all of our majors and substantially increase the number of students we send to meetings, regardless of whether they are making a presentation. Join us in contributing to our students’ professional development and help us distinguish CMU’s Earth and Atmospheric Science programs from our peer institutions by donating to the newly established ESPDF now! Honors Program Anniversary Celebration
Celebrating 65 Years of the Honors Program and 35 Years of the Centralis Scholarship Program at Central Michigan University
Celebrating 65 Years of the Honors Program and 35 Years of the Centralis Scholarship Program at Central Michigan University This year, we proudly celebrate two remarkable milestones at Central Michigan University: 65 years of the Honors Program and 35 years of the Centralis Scholarship Program. Since 1961, the Honors Program has fostered a vibrant community of scholars committed to academic excellence, leadership, and service. Since 1990, more than 2,500 students have received a Centralis Scholarship, opening doors to extraordinary educational opportunities and lifelong success. Together, these programs have provided exceptional Honors, meaningful faculty mentorship, and transformative academic and co-curricular experiences that inspire students to think critically, lead with integrity, and strive not only for personal achievement but also to make a lasting impact on their communities and the world. As we celebrate this legacy, we invite you to invest in the future of Honors education by making a gift to support the Honors Program and the Centralis Scholarship Program. Your generosity will help ensure that future generations of Honors students—nearly half of whom do not receive Honors scholarships—continue to benefit from the life-changing opportunities that define the Honors experience. Your support can expand access to undergraduate research, study abroad programs, professional conferences, and other enriching experiences that prepare students to become the next generation of innovators, scholars, and servant leaders. Together, we can honor the past, empower today's students, and shape the future of Honors education at Central Michigan University.

Provides Central Michigan University students with free professional attire for interviews, job fairs, and other professional events. First Impressions, a 401-C non-profit, was founded at CMU in 2012 by First Lady Elizabeth Ross to provide students with free professional attire. It launched with a soft opening in November 2013 and a grand opening in March 2014, serving 106 students in its first year. The program has gained regional and national recognition, inspiring similar initiatives at other universities, including Michigan State University. In 2016, First Impressions was presented at the National Association of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. Student Intern & Volunteer Benefits First Impressions is run by an assistant director, a team of interns, and volunteers who manage appointments and inventory. Interns gain experience in inventory management, supervision, and professional styling, while volunteers develop transferable skills applicable across various industries. Students who utilize the service leave with professional clothing that supports their career success. Community Partnerships To ensure all students are accommodated, First Impressions purchases clothing when needed and collaborates with Clothing Inc., which donates professional wear. JCPenney’s Suit-Up event has also provided students with professional attire at up to 60% off, initially drawing over 100 participants. The event is now held online, ensuring continued accessibility for CMU students. First Impressions is open weekly from: Monday - Thursday - 8:00am - 5:00pm Friday - 9:00am - 5:00 pm You can make an appointment on Career Central: cmich.12twenty.com Donating to First Impressions through CMU’s Ignite platform directly supports students by providing them with professional attire for interviews, internships, and career events. Sharon Tilmann Scholarship For Future Counselors
Sharon Tilmann Scholarship For Future Counselors
Support CMU students pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling.
Support CMU students pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling. Gwynn Tilmann-Holley About the Scholarship To honor her mother, this scholarship was established by Gwynn Tilmann-Holley with the support of her family. Please help us honor Sharon's legacy and memorialize her decades of service to helping others by supporting students pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling. About Sharon Sharon Marie Stangle Tilmann ’68, ’82, ’96 was a graduate of Central Michigan University, holding a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Master of Public Administration. She also studied Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution at the University of Cambridge in England. Sharon devoted her life to helping and improving the lives of others through her skills as a counselor, as a mediator, and through her involvement in her community. Sharon was a previous Director of Catholic Family Services, the Wrap-Around Program Coordinator for Listening Ear, and worked at CMU’s Counseling Center for nine years before retiring in August 2013. She also had a private counseling practice, Associated Counseling Services, in downtown Mt. Pleasant from 1995 until 2018. Through this, she was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce. Sharon was very active in the local community. She was on the Mt. Pleasant City Commission for many years serving as Mayor in 1998 and again in 2014 and was also twice Vice-Mayor. Sharon was elected to the Isabella County Commission in 2001 and served as Vice-Chairperson of the county commission 2003-2004. Sharon served on the Board of Directors for United Way, Middle Michigan Development Corporation, and the local Economic Development Corporation, and was also a member of the Volunteer Center Board and the former Isabella Child Protection Council. Sharon was on the faculty of the Michigan Judicial Institute where she facilitated training in Family and Divorce Mediation. She was a founding member of the Michigan Association of Court Mediators. In addition to accomplishments in both her professional career and her community at large, Sharon cultivated a rich personal and social world. She was always on the go, and one could rarely go anywhere with her without having to wait through her many greetings and chats with people she ran into all over town. She had a profound love of animals, most especially her cats, as well as for books, movies, line dancing, ice cream (which occasionally served as her dinner) and art, of which she had a large collection. She also loved to travel, having visited friends and family around the country and twice traveling to Alaska to experience the excitement around the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Though she loved to travel near and far, a large part of her heart and soul resided in New Orleans where she visited as often as possible. Sharon loved holidays year-round but had a special adoration for Halloween with all of its decorations, festivities, and the hordes of trick-or-treaters that used to descend upon her neighborhood. Above all else, she loved people, helping and supporting them to achieve their goals, always striving to make a positive impact on everyone around her. She embodied the message that she held dear: “Walk On The Rocks That I Stumbled On.” Sharon is dearly missed by her daughter, son-in-law and one grandson whom she adored with all her heart; and her sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephews, and great-nephews who comprised her small nuclear family. Quotes from Former Clients: "Sharon helped me navigate through a divorce while I was in college, as well as to process grief from a significant death the summer after my senior year of high school. She was phenomenal. Sharon was absolutely integral not only to helping me heal so I could graduate, but to putting me on a path to health. Healthy relationships and a healthy human." – Samantha M. “Sharon helped me navigate my parent's divorce, a breakup and emotionally supporting my sister after her boyfriend died of an accidental drug overdose, all while navigating my own college life in a new area two hours away from my hometown. She was always very down to earth. She helped me to realize there was nothing wrong with me for having grief and to set healthy boundaries with family members. My sister is currently a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who graduated from WSU and I am currently married to the "new boyfriend" I had when I last saw Sharon.” – Alicia S. “When I started at CMU and was given the opportunity to work with Sharon again (I worked with her as a teenager), I was relieved. Sharon's passion for helping people was a priceless gift. She gave me the guidance and support that I needed and my life would not be what it is today without her. – Sarah S. Quotes from Former Colleagues: "Sharon has been a treasure in our community for years. She was a counselor, mentor and cheerleader for many of us entering the field of mental health. She taught us the value of good clinical practices and how important collaboration is when problem solving. She has been a tireless advocate for her clients and her city. Countless individuals and families are living better lives because of her. This scholarship is a wonderful tribute to a person who gave so much of herself for so many others." – Deanna Heath, LMSW Mt. Pleasant Counseling, Owner "I liken our relationship like Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia. We were opposites on the political philosophy but our differences allowed us to become great friends on and off the commission. She had the ability to make me see the “other side” of the spectrum where others could not. We still may not have agreed but had mutual respect and civil conversations. “Too bad the state and federal governments couldn’t be that way” we’d say. Her passion for the city and the residents were always top of mind and it showed in her policy decisions. A true believer of open communication in governance. Miss those days." – Jim Holton, Local Business Owner and Former Mt. Pleasant Mayor I have known Sharon for many years. For nine of these years we worked together at the CMU Counseling Center where she was a counselor and I was Counseling Center director. During this time Sharon was a valued member of the Counseling Center team. For decades Sharon has given tirelessly of herself in support of helping others as a counselor, supervisor of counselors in training, assisting others resolve conflicts, helping families, and involvement in local politics including serving as Mayor of Mt. Pleasant, MI. Sharon strives to help others and enhance the quality of life in Mt. Pleasant. Creating a scholarship in Sharon’s name recognizes Sharon for her many and varied contributions to the Mt. Pleasant community and CMU. – Ross Rapaport, retired CMU counselor and Counseling Center director

Sexual Aggression Services
Sexual Aggression Services
Help support SAPA services provide to those in the CMU community impacted by sexual assault & domestic violence.
Help support SAPA services provide to those in the CMU community impacted by sexual assault & domestic violence. For 25 years, the SAPA (Sexual Aggression Peer Advocates) program has worked to provide 24/7 confidential crisis and support services to all who have been impacted by sexual assault, domestic/intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment. The program offers these individuals a confidential space to consider options, gather information, be connected to resources, and gain support. SAPA services are open to all CMU students, faculty, and staff support, and they include crisis/support phone line, texting, and in person services during the academic year. In addition, they can assist those who contact them in gaining access to resources, which includes temporary safe shelter, reporting options, medical attention, and more. Advocates also provide free educational programming and awareness events throughout the year. Established in 1997, over 475 CMU students have served as advocates during the course of our history. It is because of alumni and current member efforts that we are able to provide CMU and the campus community with advocacy for those who have been impacted by sexual aggression. We are constantly evolving to provide the best and most accessible services and educational opportunities to our community. Any funds received will help to continue these efforts and support SAPA services, advocates, as well as educational and outreach efforts.

Student Training for Observational Research in Meteorology Fund
Help us provide Meteorology students with valuable educational off-campus experiences.
Help us provide Meteorology students with valuable educational off-campus experiences. What is STORM?The Student Training for Observational Research in Meteorology (STORM) program takes learning beyond the classroom—into the sky, the storm, and the field. STORM gives undergraduate Meteorology students the rare opportunity to train hands-on with advanced weather technology, including drones, weather balloons, surface weather stations, and a weather research vehicle. But STORM is more than equipment and data—it's about experience. Participants aren't just learning; they're forecasting real weather, making strategic decisions in the field, and building lasting connections with peers and mentors. Most importantly, they’re doing this after just one year of study, at a stage when building confidence and community are critical. Unlike many summer learning opportunities, STORM students are paid to participate—so they never have to choose between building their future or earning a paycheck. Why Your Support MattersIn 2025, thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), 18 aspiring meteorologists took part in STORM on beautiful Beaver Island, home to the CMU Biological Station—a unique, real-world lab for studying how lakes and islands influence weather patterns. But NSF support ends after 2026. To keep this transformative experience alive, we need your help. Every dollar supports a hands-on, life-changing educational journey for students just starting their careers. Here’s how your gift makes an impact:

$50 powers one hour of weather research vehicle operations

$100 covers a full day of pay for one student

$300 funds the launch of a weather balloon

Our total cost to run a one-week STORM session: $50,000—covering student pay, faculty time, housing, equipment, and travel. Be Part of the ForecastYour donation isn’t just funding an educational program—it’s launching careers, advancing science, and giving students the tools to chase their passion for weather and climate. Together, we can keep STORM in the forecast for years to come.

Support the next one hundred years of Bands at Central!
Support the next one hundred years of Bands at Central! In Fall 1923, Music Department Head J. Harold Powers enlisted sixteen players and, with the assistance of Registrar and Dean of Men Charles C. Barnes, formed a new Central Normal Band to lend spirit to Football Games. From that first appearance to today, the Central Band program has continued to be integral to campus life and has grown in excellence and stature. One of the most recognizable public faces of the University, the band is an invaluable collection of musical ambassadors for CMU comprised of students in over 100 academic programs. The Marching Chips capture the CMU spirit and evoke a sense of camaraderie and tradition through music. As we begin a year-long celebration of ONE HUNDRED YEARS of Bands at Central, we hope that you will consider commemorating this milestone by making a donation to equip and outfit the band in ways that have made students and alumni proud for nearly a century.

In addition to continuing education, the fund supports research, lectureships, community activities, and general public health initiatives related to behavioral health. Lisa Lapham (1971-2020) was a treasured wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. A Central Michigan University graduate, she was dedicated to her work as the chief executive officer of HealthSource Saginaw and a tireless advocate for psychiatric medical education and behavioral health. To honor her life and her commitment to behavioral health faculty and students, her friends and colleagues created this memorial fund that bears her name. Lisa Lapham’s legacy will be one of great love for her family; her equitable treatment of all people, regardless of their professional status or life circumstances; and her commitment to improving the behavioral health of her community.

Antonio Leon Jordan Award
Antonio Leon Jordan Award
Support students of traditionally underrepresented identities who have a commitment to public service.
Support students of traditionally underrepresented identities who have a commitment to public service. Antonio Jordan graduated from CMU in 2012 with a major in Political Science, and later he began a Leadership Master’s degree through CMU. He was active in politics while at CMU and beyond, but he also loved books, working with children, coaching, and teaching. He was an avid sports enthusiast. Antonio was well-liked by all who knew him. He was ever friendly and ready with a big, welcoming smile. Because of his commitment to stop family violence, his last job was with the Michigan Coalition against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Antonio died suddenly in November of 2020. His loss was devastating to people in his hometown, Lansing, MI, and across the country, especially to his whole family, many friends, former teachers, coaches, and co-workers. After his death, the Antonio Leon Jordan Award was established in his honor to support the success of students of traditionally underrepresented identities who, like Antonio, have a commitment to public service.

Support CMU Broadcast and Cinematic Arts
Support CMU Broadcast and Cinematic Arts Today’s media environment is one of constant, ever-changing evolution. Kevin and Liz Campbell created the Campbell Educational Equipment Endowment to help the School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts meet that challenge. From Kevin & Liz: “Education is important to us. We had the opportunity to study with great professors who challenged us to excel. However, our success in media would not have been possible without the tools and technology to learn the necessary skills we needed to enter the workforce. No technology lasts forever; it wears out and new technologies come along with new capabilities. It is even more important for today’s students to learn on the same technologies that they will use when they graduate and to be able to project what new technologies may be used in the future. They are the ones who will follow us into the field, and supporting their success is important.” Help BCA and CMU meet the needs of our Broadcast and Cinematic Arts students, both now and in the future. Give back today to support the media professionals of tomorrow.

Be a catalyst for social change and an investor in the purposeful advancement of students from Flint, Michigan.
Be a catalyst for social change and an investor in the purposeful advancement of students from Flint, Michigan. As a native of Flint, Michigan, a member of an underrepresented minority group, and a first-generation college student, Dr. LaMarcus D. Howard dreamed of being in a position to enact change within his community. Met with many challenges along the way, the journey to becoming Dr. Howard was not easy. The personal courage and resilience shown by Dr. Howard during those adverse times allowed him to accomplish all he has today. He credits his success in part to the phenomenal university support services and programs in which he participated. However, it was the faith, love, and encouragement of family, friends, staff, and faculty that gave him the energy and drive he needed to obtain the highest academic degree awarded by a University. Dr. Howard strongly believes his accomplishments were made possible because of the village that invested in him, saw his potential, and supported him along his educational journey. Now, Dr. LaMarcus D. Howard is asking for your help! Join Dr. LaMarcus D. Howard as part of a village that invests in students and encourages them to reach for their highest potential, dream big, and achieve their goals. The Dr. LaMarcus D. Howard Scholarship Annual Award was developed to support CMU’s Multicultural Academic Student Services (MASS) goal of encouraging and retaining students in their quest to receive their undergraduate college degree. Your charitable donation is the catalyst needed to assist a student in overcoming setbacks and adversities due to marginalization and accomplishing their goal of obtaining a college degree. Dr. Howard and awarded students would be eternally grateful for any amount of donations gifted. The larger the scholarship grows, the more students this village will be able to support.

Saginaw Medical Education Enrichment Award
Saginaw Medical Education Enrichment Award
Provide support to advance medical education and professional development opportunities.
Provide support to advance medical education and professional development opportunities. The Saginaw Medical Education Enrichment Award was created to provide support to advance medical education and professional development opportunities for CMU College of Medicine students, as well as resident doctors in training and faculty physicians employed by CMU Medical Education Partners in the Saginaw community. The mission of CMU Medical Education Partners is to advance the quality of health care for our communities and to support local physician staffing needs by attracting, developing and retaining highly educated health care professionals for the Great Lakes Bay Region. Your decision to invest in a fund that supports our learners, faculty and staff initiatives, and the overall progression and growth of CMU Health patient care clinics represents an investment in your community, promising a significant, long-term economic and social impact. The attraction and retention of sophisticated, culturally competent health care professionals to your community are exactly the kind of economic drivers that support job creation, commerce, and higher tax revenues. In turn, these revenues support schools, housing, transportation, and other public services within the community. In honor of our community, please consider a gift to the Saginaw Medical Education Enrichment Award. Your contribution creates valuable resources that can be used now for current needs and for future opportunities that will bolster the wellbeing of all who reside in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

Thanks for Staying Rotary Scholarship
Support medical students and ensure access to quality health care for our entire region.
Support medical students and ensure access to quality health care for our entire region. Support medical students and ensure access to quality health care for our entire region. Creating a physician pipeline in the Great Lakes Bay Region The health of the Great Lakes Bay Region is at a critical point, due to the fact that within our geographical area, and the state, there will be a major need of both primary care and specialty physicians. The Association of American Medical Colleges is predicting a shortage of between 22,000 and 50,000 primary care physicians nationally. A thriving community requires access to quality health care, and local Rotary Clubs have addressed the need by creating an endowed scholarship fund for the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University students. The Thanks for Staying Rotary Scholarship will provide at least one CMU medical student a scholarship for $10,000. In return, the medical student will stay in the Great Lakes Bay Region and continue their education in one of our local residency programs. Nationally, 80 percent of residents choose to remain in the region where they complete their residency. Our community needs these highly trained physicians and their commitment to practicing in underserved rural and urban areas. This year, the local Rotary clubs have committed to a $3,000 dollar-for-dollar match to continue providing funds to students. We are asking the Great Lakes Bay Region community to help with this important cause so the Thanks for Staying Rotary Scholarship can be awarded in the spring. This virtual fundraiser will help fund the endowment to continue scholarships for years to come! Please join our efforts – together we can support medical students and ensure access to quality health care for our entire region.

Help Paul L. Parets' legacy of excellence and education continue by supporting CMU student musicians.
Help Paul L. Parets' legacy of excellence and education continue by supporting CMU student musicians. Seven founding donors of the Mid Michigan Alumni Chapter of Sigma Chi Brothers and the Toledo Conclave have collectively pledged $35,000 to establish the Paul L. Parets Musical Performance Memorial Scholarship in honor of Paul L. Parets '65. The scholarship will support undergraduate recipients who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and are members of the Chippewa Marching Band or other musical performance organization at CMU. Preference will be given to members of Sigma Chi Fraternity in good standing, with special consideration given to recipients who are active in campus activities and organizations and who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and to the arts. Through this endowed scholarship, the Sigma Chi Fraternity aims to continue Paul Paret’s legacy and commemorate his extraordinary achievements and commitment to nurturing future generations. While at CMU, Paul was an active member of the Marching Chips and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, engaged in student government, and notably founded the 147th chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. His impact on music education throughout his career was nationally recognized in 1988 when he was named National Music Educator of the Year. Paul's professional career was characterized by his unwavering dedication to education and mentorship. Beginning as an educator at Croswell Lexington High School in Michigan, he spent a decade shaping young minds before moving on to A.I. duPont High School in Delaware. Over his 36 years there, he taught history, government, and music, instilling in his students the philosophy: "To be the best, after all, what else is there?" Paul's bands not only earned first-place in numerous competitions but also performed at prestigious events such as the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, the Orange Bowl, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Hall of Fame Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, and three U.S. Presidential inaugurations (most recently that of Barack Obama). The bands have graced the presence of worldwide dignitaries, including Queen Elizabeth II and Pope Benedict, and have performed in renowned venues like Ireland's National Concert Hall and The Royal Albert Hall in London. By supporting CMU’s talented student musicians, this scholarship will ensure that Paul's dedication to excellence and education will be an inspiration for generations to come. Please contribute to help us reach our goal of $50,000, which will provide an annual scholarship to musical performance students in perpetuity.

Jodi Brookins-Fisher Professional Development Annual Award
Support student professional development as the field of Public Health is everchanging!
Support student professional development as the field of Public Health is everchanging! Active involvement in public health professional activities is one of the most effective ways we can expose students to advanced practices and networking. To that end, the Jodi Brookins Fisher Professional Development Fund aims to expand student ability to attend professional conferences and other activities aligned with their field of study (such as Great Lakes Society for Public Health Education, Society for Public Health Education, American Public Health Association, Eta Sigma Gamma). As a first-generation college student, Dr. Brookins-Fisher remembers and appreciates the opportunities CMU once gave her as an undergraduate in public health education. Some of those early networking experiences at professional conferences established lifelong public health connections of which she wants her students to establish and grow. The transformative experience of attending a regional or national meeting where students interact with professionals in their chosen field can motivate them to excel in their coursework and finish their degree. In the past, opportunities like this have been limited to a select group of highly achieving students. With your financial support, the JBF Professional Development Fund can increase the number of students we send to conferences and other professional development activities, regardless of whether they are making a presentation. Join us in contributing to our students’ professional development and help us distinguish CMU’s public health programs from our peer institutions by donating to the Jodi Brookins Fisher Professional Development Fund now!
